Ingredients:
- 500g ground meat
(beef, pork, or a mixture of both)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated cheese
(such as Parmesan or Pecorino Romano)
- 2 cloves of garlic,
finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh
parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to
taste
- Olive oil, for
browning the meatballs
- 1 onion, finely
chopped
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1 cup beef broth (or
water)
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper, to
taste
- Fresh parsley,
chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, combine
the breadcrumbs and milk and let it sit for a few minutes until the breadcrumbs
soften.
2. Add the ground meat
to the bowl with the soaked breadcrumbs. Also add the egg, grated cheese,
chopped garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix all the ingredients well until
you have a homogeneous mixture.
3. With slightly wet hands, form meatballs of the desired size and set them aside.
4. In a large pan, heat
some olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides
until they acquire a golden color. Transfer the meatballs to a plate and set
them aside.
5. In the same pan, add
the finely chopped onion.
6. Sauté the chopped
onion in olive oil until it becomes translucent and slightly golden.
7. Add the tomato puree
to the pan with the onion and mix well. Also add the beef broth (or water) and
the bay leaf. Adjust the salt and pepper according to your taste. Stir the
sauce well to combine all the ingredients.
8. Retrieve the browned
meatballs and gently place them into the sauce. Make sure they are completely
immersed in the sauce.
9. Cover the pan with a
lid and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce over medium-low heat for about
20-30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has
slightly thickened.
10. During cooking, you
can gently turn the meatballs from time to time to ensure they cook evenly and
absorb the flavor of the sauce.
11. Once cooked, remove
the pan from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
12. Serve the meatballs
in tomato sauce hot, garnished with fresh chopped parsley for a touch of
freshness and color.
Pair the meatballs in
tomato sauce with fresh pasta, spaghetti, or mashed potatoes for a hearty and
traditional meal. This dish is perfect for sharing, so gather your family or
friends around the table and enjoy this Italian delicacy.

sauce are a timeless classic that will win everyone over with their flavor and
